Chapter 6 - James - The Patient Knight

Chapter 6 - James - The Patient Knight

Nottingham 1121 A.D.

James wasn’t sure when he realized he was no longer at church and was in fact in Nottingham, England. He found himself in a unique position. He was kind of like a covert spy. This was his body, he could see the intricate cross tattoo his cousin had designed on his right shoulder through the mirror. Somehow he could see through Arthur’s eyes but he wasn’t in control of his body. He wasn’t really restricted in any way. He could feel the energy pulling him in different directions as if they were highways to transverse.

He stayed in place for the moment. Faith looked like she was on the verge of losing it. This Arthur who was supposedly King of Camelot was not a nice man on the inside. He wouldn’t call it evil but it was close. This man also had a close cohort but he wasn’t picking up on who just yet. James had a good feeling about this Jason fellow comforting Faith. Arthur seemed to despise the man which made him a patriot for sure in James’ book.

There was an instant pulling on his energetic body and James followed the promptings until he found himself in a cave-like structure that was part stone and part Batcave. A cloaked figure appeared as if from nowhere and stood before the person consulting a diary of sorts. The person looked up and regarded him and removed the cloak.

It was Faith. Well, it looked like Faith. It couldn’t possibly be since he had left her in the room with Arthur and Jason. Standing beside her was the figure of a man. He too removed his cloak.

“Hello, Brother. We wondered when you might appear.” The man before him looked like a rough and scarred version of their associate pastor.

“Yes, it is fortunate you have finally arrived. I was worried the transfer might not work. Gwen has flaws in her magic and things don’t always work out as she plans. Which is good for our team. Your friend Noah will soon realize her shenanigans and be able to handle her. He is one of us too.” This was spoken by Faith. He couldn’t get over the accents. He definitely wasn’t in Illinois any more.

"Many at your church are on Team God. You are all like God's secret spies for the good of humanity. Kind of amazing you all found each other, actually," Gabe said.

“Who are you people?”

“Protectors of the Realm. History calls us angels but we are energetic protector knights. I’m Gabriel, Gabe for short. I know how you twenty-first century folk like your nicknames. We are kind of like God’s energetic support staff. And now you're one of us.”

James smiled. He was definitely in the right place.
